The Return of the Swiss Pastors

P1100836I know that it sounds like the title of a ‘B’ Horror movie, but actually it was a delightful visit of another group of church leaders from Switzerland seeking to find out what makes GraceSpace tick.

We fed them on Parkin and home-made fat rascals (thanks Amie) with copious amounts of Yorkshire tea. Then we crammed into the living room for an hour of conversation and questions.

As before it was great time and hopefully the group went away encouraged by their experience. Colin is now the proud possessor of the largest Toblerone  known to humankind!

596012We shall be holding a special Away Day on Sunday May 18th. It will be an opportunity for us to come together as a community to seek God and to get to know one another better.

I have arranged for us to use the facilities at Harwes Farm, nr Colne (through the kind invitation of Andy and Gill Taylor). For directions please ask Colin.

During the day we will all meet together but there will also be some sessions for the children.

This is an important event – please put it in your diary and then join us to seek God for the future.

Easter Sunday 2014

Another beautiful Easter morning and we gathered for a celebratory lunch. Everyone was able to sit around the table together and as the food was shared and the conversation ebbed and flowed.

Pride of place was given to the Simnel cake with its decoration representing the 11 remaining disciples of Jesus.

P1100681Then we repaired to the living room where we shared in a retelling of the story of Easter using the ‘The Eggs of Easter’.

P1100682Out of each egg came something that reminded us of a part of the Easter story. Can you identify them?

Finally we went out into the garden for the now traditional Easter egg hunt.

P1020820This of course was followed by the even more traditional eating of the chocolate – a rite enjoyed by adults as much as children.

P1020823P1020825Our thanks to everyone for making this Easter such a special time.

Good Friday 2014

This Good Friday was celebrated with a Tenebrae, which is ancient form of worship during which the story of Holy Week is recounted as a series of candles are extinguished.

Here is the text that we used together:

After coffee and hot cross buns we moved into the living roomP1100669 where all the candles were alight.

As we followed through the story we found ourselves confronted again not only by the agony of Jesus but also by his triumphant claim ‘It is finished!’

P1100674As the candles we extinguished the words of John came back to me – The Light blazed out of the darkness; and the darkness couldn’t put it out.

Maundy Thursday 2014

P1100611Maundy Thursday saw us share in a simple family meal to remember the Last Supper.

P1100609We began, as people arrived, by decorating Easter biscuits. here you can see the one that Sarah made – she has initialled it.

P1100613Then we shared in a wonderful meal to which everyone contributed. After the supper was over Julie retold the story of the Last Supper in her own inimitable way, faced with what must have been the largest hot cross bun in creation.

P1100617This final photo seems to sum up the graceSpace approach to faith showing as it does a candle and some squirty cream. – food and faith side by side!

High Tea Report – March 2014

high-tea-societyYesterday we gathered for the genteel splendour that is High Tea. With some spending time in conversation and other enjoying popcorn and a movie. it seemed to be an occasion that appealed to all tastes.

Here is the trailer for the movie that we watched. If you enjoyed computer games from the 1980’s then you will enjoy Wreck-it-Ralph.

Thanks to everyone who brought food and joined us for tea.

Summit Report – March 2014

summit-logoLast Wednesday we held a very different style of Summit Meeting. We began with two very practical decisions.

1. Programme for Easter

The following events were agreed for Easter.

Maundy Thursday
7.00pm Family Meal with Easter Elements
Good Friday
8.00pm Good Friday Tenebrae
Easter Day
Some questions arose as to whether we should have either a Sunrise Service or an Easter Lunch.
Please let me know of your choice.
5.45   Sunrise Service
12.30 Easter Lunch

2. Setting Date for GraceSpace Away Day

It was agreed that the best date for such an event will be Sunday 18th May. Please sign up if you are available.

After this part of the meeting was concluded we spent some time in prayer listening for the voice of God.

The meeting finished in prayer at 9.20pm

idoc.ashxIt has been decided that we would celebrate Mothering Sunday his year with High Tea and a movie for all the family. So if you would like to bring yourselves and a suitable teamtime contribution, then a great time is in prospect.

Sun 30th March – 5.00pm @ 6 Glenhurst Road

Everyone Welcome

P1100513I am not sure that the Cathedral has ever seen its like before! When Zephaniah rolls into town then much fun and zaniness cannot be far behind.

The praise party was a great success attracting large crowds of people. The evening event was only slightly more sedate affair also well attended.

P1100514There was a collection of John’s songs, a selection of poems by Stuart Townsend. Mark Greenwood gave the talk but for me the highlight was a special story by Julie.

P1100524I have provided a link to the great film about Zeph that Julie made in which I play the straight man to a host of quirky kids!

Finally – Thanks John, Julie, Jenny, Sheena, the associates and my fellow trustees for all the great work you do in the name of Christ. Keep it up!
