P1100101Another wonderful evening of music and conversation at Costa Coffee in Shipley. On evening when the weather was not fit to be seen with a dog out in, there was a warm welcome and great coffee on tap. Lucy Rose Boxall provided a storming evening of music and chat and our thanks go to her and her family for making the trip to from North Yorkshire to entertain us.

P1100097Here you can the response of the crowd to Lucy-Rose’s version of ‘Single Ladies’ by Beyonce.

Our thanks also go to John Froud for the loan of his kit, and Emma, Polly and Holly for all their hard work behind the counter. A great big thank you also to those 60 people who braved the weather to come and join us. We would love to see again next month.

I will leave you with Lucy-Rose singing Lost Boy.

Costa Coffee was packed to the rafters as people gathered for our Coffee and Carols event.

P1090976When the queue for coffee had finally died down and Colin had been prevented from telling anyone Christmas jokes, we began with some great carol singing led by John Cath and David. Everyone seemed in great voice as we worked our way through ‘Joy to the World’ and ‘Go tell it on the Mountain’ etc.

P1090989There followed brief pause whilst we set up for the Circus Nativity. Soon the lights were extinguished and after small hiatus for a quick power socket change the performance began. James brought the music and Daryll the circus skills.

P1090993

The age old story of the Nativity was recounted with awe and wonder and a wonderful light display.P1100030

Emma and her staff (to whom also our thanks must go kept us all supplied with refreshments. Here they are in their Christmas finery. We also managed to embarrass Polly with card and a chorus of Happy Birthday in celebration of her turning 18.

P1020658Our thanks go also to Andrew for the photo which he auctioned on behalf of Christian Aid and to Alex Jones for his words on behalf of Christian Aid – oh and the many buckets he provided.

We appear to have raised about £260 for Christian Aid which is more than three times the sum from last year and I would like to thank everyone for giving so generously.

P1090727About 80 people braved a cold December night for a fun packed and somewhat crazy evening at Costa Coffee we were regaled with the insightful music of John Froud.

P1090729

This was followed by the antic adventures of Darryll Hackett and his team of assistants!

P1090732

This was probably the first time Costa had seen the juggling with knives and especially the bed of nails. Certainly the staff were enthralled

P1090736

Having recovered his breath Darryll was ably interviewed by Jess Wilford and shared his thoughts on performing and faith.

P1090751Many thanks to John, Darryll and Jess for their efforts and not forgetting, Rosa, Polly and Jack the hard working Costa staff.

Coffee and CarolsThis is where our journey with Costa Coffee began.

Last year we organised an evening of carols singing for Christian Aid. The evening to proved to be a great success and from this we embarked on the Live @ Costa programme.

David Wilkinson, John and Cath will be providing the music and we are also hoping to stage the circus nativity. Last year we managed to raise £80 for Christian Aid. This year we would love to do better.

Wed 18th December – 7.00pm @ Costa Coffee.

All Welcome

live at Costa December 2013This month in a change of pace for our Live @ Costa event. we have invited local circus performer Daryll Hackett to be our entertainment. Daryll who works under the brilliant name of ‘Holy Kapow’ will no doubt amaze us. Who knows what might happen!

Sun 1st December @ Costa Coffee, Market Street. Shipley.

It would be wonderful if everyone could put this date in their diaries and bring their friends along.

Everyone Welcome.

P1090524Last night Costa Coffee again reverberated to the sound of music as Rufus Garside entertained the assembled multitude with their musical stylings. It was a great evening that even resulted in some of the crowd getting on their feet and actually dancing.

P1090541Our thanks go to Adele Dewhirst for her excellent interviewing technique. She even managed to discover the origin of the band’s name. Rufus Garside was the name thrown up by a site offering to provide an English gentleman’s name from whatever name was entered. The band entered ‘Jesus bar Joseph’ and out popped Rufus Garside – and the band was born!

It was also Adele’s birthday – an event marked by the presentation of a birthday muffin complete with candle! Happy Birthday Adele!

P1090521

Our thanks go also to Emma, Alex and Hayley who worked so hard to keep everyone supplied with coffee and cakes. Thanks to everyone for supporting our event and finally to Rufus Garside for the music.

P1090525Here is a sample of their music, to remind you of the evening – or perhaps to show what you missed!

live at Costa november 2013On Sunday 3rd November we shall be hosting our third Live @ Costa event. This month we are fortunate to have as our band another fine group musicians. This time from just over the border in Lancashire who are collectively known as Rufus Garside. I am hoping that someone will ask them why.

I understand the Emma the manager at Costa was so pleased with or efforts last month that her line manager is hoping to come along. We would love to see as many of you as possible, so that we can make a great impression on the powers that be. This will surely help to ensure the future of this event.

Sun 3rd November – 7.30pm @ Costa Coffee Shipley

Everyone Welcome

P1090331Another cracking night at Costa Coffee. On this occasion we were splendidly entertained by Motif (Thanks guys for your time and your music). It would appear that Moondance is becoming our theme song because it found its way into the set list yet again.

P1090337The crowd was even larger. I counted over eighty. This is quite amazing and again the buzz was tremendous. Thank you to everyone who turned and we hope you will come back for Rufus Garside next month.

P1090345A special thank you to Bill, Rosa and Polly who worked so hard to supply everyone with coffee.

The rest of the photos of the event can be found on our Facebook site.
